Christmas Stockings Guide

How tall is the embroidery done on a stocking? We at Personalized Presents embroider almost all of our Christmas stockings at 1.25". There are a few exceptions to this such as Christmas stockings that have a very large cuff can be embroidered at 1.5"-2" and ones that have very small cuffs might go as small as .75".

One first name looks best. We always have a limited amount of space on each stocking, this space does not increase when more personalization is desired. For example if your name is Elizabeth and we have 4.5" to embroider the name we will make the length of your name smaller to fit in 4.5" whereas if your name is Sarah your name will remain the size the computer generated. A space alone can take half an inch of space on your Christmas stocking leaving only 4" for both a first and middle name. The two examples below have the same # of letters but the second is much longer and therefore will need the length to be made smaller.

Elizabeth

Ava Marie

Should the toe of a Christmas stocking face to the left or right? 95% of stocking toes point to the right.  The only time this would matter is if you are looking to add more stockings to your mantle in the future. If some point in one direction and others in another not only can you not fit as many stockings on your mantle but asthetically they do not look as nice as when all the Christmas stockings are hanging in the same direction.

Which font should you choose? There are very popular fonts that don't look good embroidered on Christmas stockings, unfortunately we do still offer these fonts because they are requested so often that when they are taken off as a choice we get numerous calls with special requests for them.  One such font is Curly. Curly is a thin font that doesn't sew well on thick fabrics or furry fabrics. With a furry cuff curly be difficult to even see.

Types of materials Christmas stockings can be made from vary greatly from the classic velvet stocking to the traditional plush stocking. Each stocking, regardless of the material, has it's positives and negatives.

Some other Personalization Recommendations:

  • Use lower & upper case letters.  We do not recommend all upper case.
  • View each character of the name to be personalized in the font you are selecting.  In some font alphabets, certain letters may not be to your liking.  For example,  the name "Zoe" many people do not like the way it appears in cursive fonts.
  • If you are picking all the same stocking, it may be more astehtically pleasing to keep the font and color the same.
  • Limit the personalization to 1 name per stocking.  When a first and middle name are used on the same stocking,  the font must be reduced in size and a space is left between the 2 names.  This is not usually as asthetically pleasing as just one name being embroidered.

Above are some considerations and guidelines for you to keep in mind that might help you in selecting your Personalized Christmas Stockings.  However,  these are only guidelines and  the most important thing is that YOU are happy with your stockings.  With that in mind, have fun browsing the huge selection of Christmas Stockings available, and feel free to contact us with any questions you might have.
